Thea Rossi Barron
Artist’s Profile
I began drawing while in middle school, mostly in pastels. But since my art first class in 8th grade, painting has become my passion. While I worked mainly in pastels and oils back then, it was in the early 1970s that I found the medium I love the most, when I took a class from a Michigan watercolorist.
Over the years, I have taken classes at the Smithsonian Institution, Northern Virginia Community College and the Alexandria Torpedo Factory, as well as many workshops from Maryland and Virginia artists.
When I travel throughout the U.S. and in Europe, I always have my sketchbooks at hand. These sketches form the inspiration for most of my paintings. I am drawn first to contours – of the landscapes,, seascapes, cityscapes and the figures and animals which inhabit them. Sometimes in my smaller works, I combine watercolor and ink, where the lines give spontaneity and definition. I am especially inspired by the extraordinary and vibrant colors in the natural world that God has created for us. I sketch en plain air and then complete the work in my studio.
For over twenty years, my work has been accepted in many judged and juried shows in the Washington, D.C. and northern Virginia areas. I have had solo shows in Arlington, Virginia in 1997 and 1999 and in Fairfax,Virginia in 2005 and 2009.
I am a member of the Springfield Art Guild where some of my paintings can be viewed at springfieldartguild.org.and at my website, theabarron.wixsite.com/artist . My work can be purchased by contacting me at theabarron1939@gmail.com.
